“Ciudad de Sevilla 2020”

UPDATED [March 29, 2020]

The new bases of the 7th “Ciudad de Sevilla” international piano competition are published, with substantial modifications due to the drastic measures adopted to stop the pandemic of the COVID-19 virus.

1.- Fundacaión Avanza, Andalucía Música and the Conservatory of Seville “Manuel Castillo” organize the 7th City of Seville International Piano Competition for Young Talents.

2.- The Contest includes three categories: A, B and C.

The following age limits are established for each category:

Category A: between 8 and 12 years old (must not exceed 12 years old on April 30, 2020) .

Category B: up to 17 years old (must not exceed 17 years of age on April 30, 2020).

Category C: up to 25 years old (must not be over 25 years old on April 30, 2020).

First prize winners in a category from a previous edition may not enter the same category in the current edition. However, they may enroll in a higher category.

3.- For registration will be paid:

Category A, € 30.

Category B, € 35.

Category C, € 40.

in the IBAN account: ES20 0049 1861 1329 1042 1207 of the Santander bank, beneficiary: Fundación Avanza. It is also possible to pay the fee through Paypal using the following email address: info@fundacionavanza.org

4.- Once the registration is made, no refunds are made.

5.- To take part in the contest, the registration will be made through the online form in which the following documentation must be attached in digital format (JPG or PDF):

– ID or passport of the contestant.

– A photograph in digital format.

– Entry receipt of the registration fee.

– Link to participating video.

– Authorization for the publication of images (downloadable directly from the online form)

6.- Registration is open from the publication of this call until April 20, 2020.

7.- The contest is structured as follows:

  1. First round online
  2. Semifinal online
  3. Final in Seville with participation in the concert of the winners the same day.

8.- First Round online: The first eliminatory test will be done online, sending the link of a youtube video.

More than the quality of the video, what is valued is the interpretation (the sound has to be heard acceptably, a video recorded with a smartphone is more than enough).

The lengths of the videos must be 2 minutes minimum for category A, 6 minutes minimum for category B, 8 minutes minimum for category C.

For all categories: the repertoire of the elimination phase online is completely free: they can be pieces that will later be played in competition as well as pieces previously played or videos already published. It is not important that the videos last long, the important thing is to respect the minimum duration.

Once the registration is closed, the videos of the tie will be published on the contest website (http://www.concursopiano.es) and there will be the possibility of registering and voting for the contestants.

The most voted video will be rewarded with a domain with a wordpress installed for one year, to disseminate the interpreter.

The selection committee will take into account the preferences of the public, which will constitute 20% of the grade for the pass to the next phase.

9.- Online semifinal:

In the online semifinal, the candidates will record a video from home (or other place) on May 3 (the date the contest was originally planned to be held) at 6pm.

The video will be recorded at once without the possibility of repeating it. To guarantee that repetitions and corrections are not carried out, the video will be recorded as follows:

  • A 4-digit PIN will be communicated to the contestants at 17.50 on May 3. It will be communicated through Whatsapp or email.
  • Before recording, the competing candidate will have to pronounce the four digits of the PIN. This will demonstrate that the video was recorded at that time.
  • The video will be recorded with any smartphone or tablet in a fixed position (without moving or editing it), seeing the entire figure of the contest and the face at the time of the PIN pronunciation.
  • The video will be uploaded to YouTube immediately communicating the video link to the contest through an email specifying in the object NAME OF THE COMPETITOR – CATEGORY. The video can be uploaded in “hidden” mode.
  • Any editing or modification of the video is prohibited.
  • It will be taken into account that, having recorded the video at 6:00 p.m., the contestants of Cat.A should have uploaded the video around 6:20 p.m., those of Cat. B around 6:35 p.m. and those of Cat. C around 18.40. With small margins this guarantees that the execution is unique.
  • Contestants must send the PDF files with the scores to the email of the competition organization before May 1, 2020. The email is concursopiano.avanza@gmail.com
